چکیده

We construct a constrained trivariate extension of the univariate normalized B-basis of the vector space of trigonometric polynomials of arbitrary (finite) order n ∈ N defined on any compact interval [0, α], where α ∈ (0, π). Our triangular extension is a normalized linearly independent constrained trivariate trigonometric function system of dimension δn = 3n (n+ 1) + 1 that spans the same vector space of functions as the constrained trivariate extension of the canonical basis of truncated Fourier series of order n over [0, α]. Although the explicit general basis transformation is yet unknown, the coincidence of these vector spaces is proved by means of an appropriate equivalence relation. As a possible application of our triangular extension, we introduce the notion of (rational) triangular trigonometric patches of order n and of singularity free parametrization that could be used as control point based modeling tools in CAGD.

Nielson-type transfinite triangular interpolants by means of quadratic energy functional optimizations

We generalize the transfinite triangular interpolant of (Nielson, 1987) in order to generate visually smooth (not necessarily polynomial) local interpolating quasi-optimal triangular spline surfaces. Given as input a triangular mesh stored in a half-edge data structure, at first we produce a local interpolating network of curves by optimizing quadratic energy functionals described along the arc...

On an Integer Sequence Related to a Product of Trigonometric Functions, and its Combinatorial Relevance

In this paper it is shown that for n ≡ 0 or 3 (mod 4), the middle term S(n) in the expansion of the polynomial (1 + x)(1 + x2) · · · (1 + xn) occurs naturally when one analyzes when a discontinuous product of trigonometric functions is a derivative of a function. This number also represents the number of partitions of Tn/2 = n(n+ 1)/4, (where Tn is the nth triangular number) into distinct parts...

A Bound on the Implicit Degree of Polygonal B ezier Surfaces

Recent work has shown that the triangular rational B ezier surface representation can be used to create polygonal surface patches. The key to the construction is the judicious use of zero weights in creating the surface parameterization. These zero weights introduce base points into the resulting rational parameterizations. Base points also lower the degree of the implicit representation of the...

Bézier patches on almost toric surfaces

The paper is devoted to the parametrization extension problem: given a loop composed of 3 (resp. 4) rational Bézier curves on a rational surface X, find a triangular (resp. tensor product) Bézier patch on X of optimal degree bounded by these curves. The constructive solution to the formulated problem is presented in details for cases where X is a sphere or a hyperbolic paraboloid. Then X is an ...

Decompositions of trigonometric polynomials with applications to multivariate subdivision schemes

We study multivariate trigonometric polynomials satisfying the “sum-rule” conditions of a certain order. Based on the polyphase representation of these polynomials relative to a general dilation matrix, we develop a simple constructive method for a special type of decomposition of such polynomials. These decompositions are of interest in the analysis of convergence and smoothness of multivariat...
